But what does it all mean?! [Mar. 26th, 2007|09:22 pm]
Story time! Every morning I wake up and make myself coffee. Nothing fancy, I just heat up a Jenny-sized serving of espresso in my little Italian percolator, then pour that into a mug of milk that I heated in the microwave. The baristas at my favorite cappuccino place in Philly can do some fancy-ass flourishes atop their steamy beverages, but alas this is not a skill I have. I just dump espresso into milk.

And yet! Four times now, after combining my cafe and leche, an image floats to the top of my coffee. It blows my mind every time, friends (probably because I'm still not quite awake at that point, having not yet consumed said coffee).

So, for your enjoyment, here are the four images I've seen in my coffee THUS FAR. I'd like to think there are many more to come. Your assignment, should you choose to accept it, is to decipher what you think my coffee is trying to tell me. Also, please feel free to let me know if you don't see the crazy stuff I see, because then I'll know that I need to lay off the crack pipe.

I've laid these out in chronological order. Enjoy!

Think I can sell this shit on Ebay? )

beeeeeeeeeer [Oct. 31st, 2006|10:07 pm]
Sometimes, not often, after throwing a glorious party one may find oneself left with a keg containing more than a few cupfuls of Yuengling. My friends Joe Anna and Sarah were faced with exactly that situation after they threw an awesome housewarming party, providing so much excellent non-draught booze that there was still beer in the keg the next day. Not wanting it to go to waste, we steadily drank it the next afternoon while watching the Eagles lose, and continued drinking into the night (though I had to duck out early to check out Terror Behind the Walls with the Greeks). Despite our persistence, a couple days later the keg still wasn't dry.

So on an otherwise uneventful Thursday evening, we rallied the troops, filled up some pints, and created the greatest game in the world: BOBBING FOR APPLES IN BEER!!!

Fun on the job! [Aug. 17th, 2006|08:38 pm]
[Current Location |Thrilladelphia!]

Heeeeeeeeeeeey internet. So back in June I kicked Red Cross to the curb (aka my Americorps program ended and I had to start living above the poverty line again. Bitches, man, bitches!) and I got a brand new fancy job at Mazzoni Center as an HIV Case Manager. love Love LOVE working here, and I will now give you photo evidence of why it is so great!

My supervisor bought some bird hats (?!?!Something about an Avian-flu-themed camping trip!?!?) and seriously, who can resist a bird hat? My coworkers donned the flutter-caps, and I preserved the images for eternity and will now share them with all of you!

We did a joyous pose and a gangsta pose, so it's up to you to decide which highlights the birdy goodness most effectively. Voila!

Featured in these photos are [info]slutmuphin and [info]punkymunky21, looking damn fly I might add. Big ups to Ed on his last day at Mazzoni!

Coming soon... photos from Oregon and my bro-ham's weddin'. Here's a glimpse of the joy to come.

Cliffy (aka pops, aka my dad) on the only day in his entire 56 years he's ever donned a tuxedo. Probably the last time, too. No way would I make him wear one again.

Later, FOOLS.

news you can booze [Mar. 28th, 2006|11:54 am]
I'm joining a choir in Philly, first rehearsal is tonight. Dello Joio, Susa, Poulenc and Brahms are first up in my post-college choral life.

Recently I decided to stick around here for another year. I'd been debating for the past few months whether to stay in Philly or move to NYC, but not really getting much clarity because all my pros and cons lists were overrun by pros. That shit never helped anyone decide anything. Both places are so great, I had no idea what to do. But then I had a vision when I was in NYC for St. Patty's. It all started when I was riding the subway to the upper upper upper west side. Our plan was to walk over the George Washington Bridge to go check out the Palisades in New Jersey in a desperate attempt to see something natural and beautiful. Once we got out at 181st, we realized it was snowing and the desire to walk across a huge steel bridge sort of died out so we checked out the Cloisters instead. It was a good day, but then we got back on the Subway and headed back to Brooklyn. It was on this return trip that the vision occurred: I saw myself riding that same train a year from now, commuting twice a day in and out of the city, and I realized that with a commute that long I would eventually figure out just how much of my life would be spent underground if I lived there. It freaked me out, like those statistics that say "the average person spends 5 years peeing." Once that con sneaked its way into my mind, I started seeing the advantages of Philly over NYC a little more clearly. Easier to find a job here, and it would be fucking amazing to not have to move again in the sticky sticky ass-sweat summertime.

Most importantly, however, I don’t have to say goodbye to the best dollar store in the world for at least another year and a half!

And while I'm on the topic? Where's your favorite place to pee in your favorite city? What's the best thing you've ever gotten at a dollar store?

On a more serious note, so sorry some of you lost friends at that shooting in Capitol Hill. I couldn't believe it when I saw it on the news out here, it's so crazy. I hope you find strength, some peace, and get through it together.

Brought to you by JESUS. [Dec. 24th, 2005|11:16 pm]
Yeah Christmas!

SOURCE OF JOY: Today I was headed out to Silver Falls State Park near my parents' house in Oregon, where you can walk behind a freakin waterfall(!!!), and on our way we stopped at a local produce stand where they were selling "Oregonzola" cheese. A little pee trickled out, I was so excited. It's really wonderful to be home. Tacoma was amazing, Seattle is beautiful, and Oregon is obviously incredible. I'm heading out to the coast on Monday, which will probably make me freak out even more and rue the day I got the inkling to move away. I'll be back, mortals, mark my words.

But life in Philly is great. Kris and I got a christmas tree, which we named Frank after the dude at Home Depot who hooked us up. Upon getting home, we looked at Frank's tag and discovered that the tree is from Tacoma. Small small world. You think we'd have been stuck with a Jersey tree. In other news, I no longer have a torso, as evidenced behind this clickable goodie )
(cut so as not to scar the weak-hearted).

Enjoy the winter goodness, friends!

WHOA! [Nov. 15th, 2005|09:05 pm]
House of Leaves just blew my mind straight out my butt.

If you're looking for an awesome read (it requires a little effort beyond just reading the words, but you guys are smart and love challenges, right?), and also if you don't mind not sleeping some nights cause you're so freaked the hell out, then you should totally pick up a copy of this book and read it!

Awesome!

[music |Jolie Holland -- Old Fashioned Morphine]

Howdy, friends and lovers.

Christina alerted me to the fact that not only have I not updated with a fabulous photo post detailing my southern adventure, but I didn't even give a "hi, i'm back, didn't get shot cause I was fixin' to loot" post to set your minds at ease. For that I apologize.

I am back from the Gulf Coast, and have been for about 3 weeks. Pictures have been developed, and I've just been too lazy/busy to put it all together. I want to do it justice, you know? So you'll just have to wait a teensy bit longer.

I would do it tonight, but instead I'm gonna make an omelette, drink pumpkin beer (cause I fucking miss Seattle SO MUCH and its delicious cheap beer), and watch Serpico. I think you all understand why the post has to wait.

I miss you all incredibly, and hope you get to wear sweaters and scarves these days.

[music |something about Dixie...]

Hey!

Quick update to let you all know that Rite-Aid can suck a nut cause they messed up my photo order! Didn't make me a photo CD, and so you have to wait longer for Philly pictures. And now you have to wait even longer because today I found out that the Red Cross is shipping me down to freaking:

MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA

tomorrow to help with disaster relief after Katrina busted through. I'm going to be down there for 3 weeks. It will be amazing, and I am incredibly excited. Will give a lengthier update upon my return.

Hope all is well in your various necks of the woods, and that none of you are currently experiencing any disasters. Besides the obvious disaster of WHICH shaved ice flavor to choose on this hot summer day, which is really only a disaster of delight. I wish that particular disaster upon you all!

Farewell!

Quick update! [Jul. 31st, 2005|08:36 pm]
Hello to you all! Wanted to let you know I made it to Philadelphia safely. So far I'm completely taken by the city! I spend my days walking around exploring and adventuring, as my job doesn't start until the 15th.

Right now I'm burnt to a damned crisp because we spent the day at the Jersey Shore (!!!!!!!) and Kristen and I forgot to apply sunscreen early in the day. I look fucking ridiculous. Aloe party, tonight.

I have so much to say, but I want to do it justice so I'm gonna wait a little bit until I buy a camera and have more time to write it all out. Just know that I'm loving everything and miss you all. I didn't cry at all when I was saying goodbye to friends and family, which I thought was sort of strange. Too much excitement I guess. But then I got on the plane and as soon as the wheels left the ground I looked down over the Puget Sound and the tears started flowing. I was gripping the window, thinking about how fortunate I was to have so many beautiful, wonderful people in my life, and wondering why on earth I was willingly putting 2500 miles between myself and them. But as I said, since getting here everything has been wonderful and I can't wait to share more and hear all your stories.

Lots of Dunkin' Donuts-fueled Jenny love to you all.

ps how great is the hump song?

Quick line here to say that I'm leaving the overwhelmingly beautiful and wonderous Puget Sound for Philadelphia this coming Wednesday. For those of you in town who want to shoot the shit one last time before then, I'm getting together with my loved ones (that's you) on Tuesday at Volunteer Park in Seattle (Capitol Hill). I'm getting there at 5, you can come whenever and we'll hang out and have fun and hug and stuff.

Once I get to Philly I'll probably do a decent update on my Seattle Summer O' Fun. Plan right now is to buy a digital camera when I get to Philly, so you can expect LOADED BUTTS of photo posts. Pretty much just picture after picture of me shoveling down cheesesteaks is how I think this endeavor is gonna end up. Everyone wins in that situation.

Sweet. I'm excited. Gonna go ship my computer now. Much love to all.

Troll Gold! [Jul. 14th, 2005|02:07 pm]
Took a little hiatus from the ol' LJ, hope y'all don't mind. Also hope you don't mind excess use of apostrophes!

Anyway, as promised here are some photos of the Norwegian Independence Day Parade, which was held in Seattle's Scandanavian metropolis, beautiful Ballard. Erik is 50% Norwegian, so he was filled with Norskie pride and graciously invited me to go along. I'm 0% Norwegian, but 100% Parade-Lover, and therefore we made a great team. Language-floor Mike and Malaysian "I tell really great stories" Chris also came along.

'Sug kuken min' means 'suck my dick' in Norwegian! )

ITEM! [May. 31st, 2005|12:54 pm]
I'm gonna get this out of the way at the beginning and say that y'all should expect some photo posts in the near future. I've already got some from the "Ballard Norwegian Independence Day Parade" up and waiting in Photobucket, so it's only a matter of time... Lefse.

But I thought I'd take this moment to convey a few things that have happened since the last time I wrote in this thing, which was a damned long time ago.

1. Graduated. My mom pointed out that with my new degree title, my initials are now JAMBA. And all the intelligence that I've gained from this education that I will henceforth spew upon the masses will from here on be referred to as my "Jamba Juice."

2. Dad had surgery, so I'm kicking it in D-town for awhile until he's back on his feet and running. Or at least walking without a limp. Should be back in Washington on the 5th of June.

3. Upon my return to the Evergreen State, I'll squat at the Sass for about a week, and then move into my new summer residence up on Capital Hill in Seattle. I don't have a job yet, but that will come. I just had a fierce desire to get out and live somewhere new, and when the option of living in on Capital Hill in a furnished room for $310 came up, I couldn't turn it down. The plan is to meet some cool new kids and live it up.

4. I got a job in Philadelphia! Come August, I'm moving out to Philly to work for the Red Cross doing disaster outreach. I'm pretty pumped about moving to a new part of the country and meeting a whole new flock of crazies, and am really thankful that I got this job. It's also great because Kristen will also be in Philadelphia, Jared Julie and Jeff will all be in New York, and Em will be in Boston. The job lasts for 10 months, and I have no idea what I'll do at that point but I'm pretty fucking stoked for what the coming year holds.

So that's it for me. Hope everything is well with all of you. By the way, Cliff Yablonski updated, so go check it out.

Easter Fun!! [Apr. 8th, 2005|02:26 am]
Back when I was a young, pseudo-God-fearing freshman at UPS, my dear friend Kristen invited me to her family's house out in Puyallup for Easter. I love her parents, the fabulous Roy and Judy Kent. And even though I'm a bit more of a heathen now, I'm pretty sure they at least sort of like me because they've had me out for Easter every year since, even last year when Kristen was abroad in Europe. Easters at the Kents have been a wonderful part of Tacoma springtimes, and I thought I would share the glory of the lastest Easter extravaganza with all of you lovelies in photopost form!

Thecal Matter! [Mar. 16th, 2005|09:23 pm]
[mood | tacomatose]
[music |M. Ward -- Paul's Song]

Spring break is trudging along like so many rhinoceri on morphine. Perhaps it only feels trudg-y right now because I'm working hard on my thesis, which is only sort of fun. I was actually feeling pretty great about deciding to stay here and work over spring break, but just now when I went to the computer to annotate yet another article (this one about Australian Trannies), an IM was sitting there from Jared, who is off in New York for spring break with my 4 other housemates. He signed off before I could respond, but his IM made me sort of sad that I wasn't off on some crazy adventure.

You can read about it here )

However, this spring break is good because I've definitly had a healthy dose of fun mixed with these theses. Tomorrow I get to go sailing. I saw M. Ward, which was great. Quality time has been spent with various fantastic Seattle people that I rarely see, and I intend to spend more quality time with the Tacoma folk who are around. And hey, you Tacoma folk, I still think we should hit up some O'Watering McSpot and fill our bodies with corned beef and Guinness for St. Paddy's Day tomorrow. If y'all are up for it, let's coordinate something. Let's bring this cow to life!:
Arise, Golden Calf! )

This is important. [Mar. 3rd, 2005|12:26 am]
[mood | big straws, bitches!]

Bubble tea is for helping.

This is something Travis and I have always known, but tonight we were finally able to put it into words. On multiple occasions Travis and I have expressed our tender feelings toward each other using bubble tea as the ultimate measure. On Friday we are going to have ridiculous amounts of incredible fun, and seeing as bubble tea will be involved I thought it was only appropriate to make a photo post that would allow the rest of you a meager glimpse into our wonderful world. Enjoy!

Lychee my ass! We demand Boba! )
